Setting the stage for this is a wkowtv article on Poynette school district in Poynette, Wisconsin voting to change the 70-some year old mascot from ‘Poynette Indians’ to something else such as ‘Elk’, ‘Bears’, ‘Panthers’ or some other mascot which is unable to rise up as a group collectively and fight against the use of their race.

Let’s look at what a mascot is first:

: a person, animal, or object adopted by a group as a symbolic figure especially to bring them good luck <the team had a mountain lion as their mascot>

70 years ago, Poynette high school adopted the Indian as a symbolic figure to represent and bring good luck to their team and school. Put into context, and in the spirit of common sense; common sense tells us that we’re talking football here for the most part.

Football. It’s an extremely physical, organized type of fighting game of which most Americans know of very well; and in choosing a mascot, you’re looking for something that will convey your dominance and prowess on the field; something which will effectively strike fear into your opponent.

What’s wrong with the Indian? An Indian as a mascot serves many purposes and conjures up many images:

Dominance and skill in times of war (football & other sports)

Focus, determination, and survival when not at war (striving for excellence)

Thoughtfulness, criticality, and harmony with all things in the world (morality & civic duties)

Here’s what I think.

I think the school board managed to overlook all of the good things we think of when we think Indian, and focus primarily on the “bad” things, which consist mostly of falling prey to the notion that “Indian” is synonomous with “Brutal Killer”, “Scalp Chaser”, or some other racially-charged image, which most of us outside of politics don’t even possess.

I think that back in the day, when the image of the Indian was coined as the mascot for Poynette High School; people had a little more common sense and were a bit more learned about things. They were able to critically think things through. Those who initially chose the Indian as a mascot I think were able to see the full picture, not just one that is consistently presented to us in a bad light by sites like this, and this, and this; lest we forget the constant droning by the news media calling for PC on a daily basis as well as the constant barrage of junk we see coming out of the Madison school district. That’s another story all together.

I think… The school board thinks their feet are held to the fire because they’re on the list.

Well, school board… Grow a pair. Take a stand instead of pandering to these idiots who can’t get over a simple word coined by some baffoon who can’t navigate and landed on the wrong continent some 500 years ago!

You want to be sooooo “progressive” there in Poynette? Draft a resolution, send it to the AICS and tell them where to go. Tell them to get over it and tell them what ‘Poynette Indians’ really means.

Do you lose sleep when you hear someone refer to Poynette as a ‘hick’ town? implying that you, and everyone else that lives there is a ‘hick’? Probably not.

I’d also bet you don’t have a problem when someone refers to ‘regular’ underwear as ‘tighty whities’ either? Yes, I suppose I could construe that to infer that all white people are ‘tight’, and henceforth become offended. Hell, might want to talk to the village board, you might be able to get them to outlaw open fires.. afterall, they billow white smoke which could be interpeted as the person whom lit the fire having the desire to burn white people.

See where this is going? Think my analogies are crazy?

What would your grandparents have said about changing the mascot because of the reasoning in this quote:

“Native Americans deserve to have an uproar about it,” said rising high school freshman Nick Butler. “It can be considered offensive.”

Basing anything solely on the possibility that someone, somewhere will be offended in the slightest bit is always a bad political move. You’d think we’d learn that by now.

Unbelievable: DC Voting Rights Bill Clears Senate (FOX News)

Why are you wasting time and money on this crap? Seriously people, you already control the executive branch, you control the house AND senate, your boy in the oval office runs the census bureau; responsible for districting and re-districting and you’re wasting time on this to gain ONE!!!111one! single solitary democratic seat in congress (because there’s no way the American people would have ever guessed that DC is largely democrat-voters).

That would be unconstitutional. I thought you people we elected to run our senate are EDUCATED?

Read: United States Constitution Article 1 Section 2

If you’re too inept to follow a link, here’s the text:

Section 2. The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states, and the electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislature.

No person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five years, and been seven years a citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an inhabitant of that state in which he shall be chosen.

Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall by law direct. The number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand, but each state shall have at least one Representative; and until such enumeration shall be made, the state of New Hampshire shall be entitled to chuse three, Massachusetts eight, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations one, Connecticut five, New York six, New Jersey four, Pennsylvania eight, Delaware one, Maryland six, Virginia ten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgia three.

When vacancies happen in the Representation from any state, the executive authority thereof shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies.

The House of Representatives shall choose their speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of impeachment.

Find me anywhere in the above text which defines Washington, DC as a state or specifically references Washington, DC (district) as having the power to elect representatives, and I will buy you a steak. Better yet, look at the whole of the constitution and find me where it says DC gets votes in congress ANYWHERE and you’ll get a steak AND a lobster.

Based on the subject, you might suspect this is a chain letter or an email forward. It’s not. I’m outlining all the things that make me a bad American. I think a similar article is floating around the net, but this one will be my thoughts.

1. I believe in personal responsibility. Darwinism is the reason that you’re trapped on a rooftop, surrounded by sewage, and waiting on a government helicopter to rescue you.

2. I believe there should only be two kinds of sex offenders. Dead ones and those not yet caught. This concept of a “registered sex offender” only highlights what is wrong with our society.

3. I believe that, unless you just arrived here from Mars, there is no excuse for not having money or some non-government means of support.

4. I read books instead of watching endless hours of useless television. You should especially be ashamed of yourself if you watch sitcoms, reality TV shows, or other similar trashy programming.

5. I’m not a member of this so called “housing crisis”. I bought a house I can afford and did so at a fixed interest rate. I don’t believe in this ridiculous concept of “predatory lending”, and I don’t think my tax money should be used to help those who purposely bought a house they couldn’t afford.

6. I am strongly opposed to this Minister of Equalization we now have for a president. I know where I am and what I’m doing each morning of a work week, and I don’t think my money belongs to some other family who can somehow afford to pay for cigarettes, but not their electric bill.

7. I save money. It’s a novel concept, and banks reward you for it.

8. I have credit cards, but I use them wisely. None of them have balances which look like they were used to finance two cars and a boat.

9. I will never willingly watch a CNN broadcast, ever.

10. I believe that if you’re cold and hungry, there’s a reason for it. How long have you known that it gets cold in January, and what have you been doing since that time?

11. I believe there’s a simple solution to overcrowded prisons. It’s called euthanasia.

12. In terms of the second amendment, I believe the phrase, “shall not be infringed” means exactly what it says.

13. I believe that the Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Obama definition of “fair” is two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.

14. I believe that no company should be guaranteed the right to exist by the federal government. If GM can’t manage on their own, then let Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and the others do what they can’t.

15. I believe that if you drive a car without insurance, your car should be seized and either crushed or auctioned, and you should be sentenced to X years of hard labor.

16. I believe that anyone trying to cross the border illegally should be instantly shot. How did the conflicting terms “illegal alien” and “civil rights” find themselves being used in the same sentence to describe the same group of people?

17. I believe that people who breed irresponsibly should not receive a cash reward.
