Words I have read and heard before. Plus, as I have said many times before, when schools and communities started using the name, "Indian" years ago, I'm sure it was for good and positive reasons. But as time passes, so do opinions and feelings. I also continue to say that even today a lot of those schools probably still have good intentions. The down side is the other schools they play, both at home games and away. Its when the name calling begins, the images being burned or stabbed, the non-Indian people dressed up like, "Hollywood Indians" and the alumni continuing to call themselves, "Indian." There is no honor at being laughed at. There is no honor in having food thrown on you. There is no honor in being spit in. And don't think for a moment I should have, "Grown out of the situations by now," because these things continue today. Drop the names, drop the images and drop the practices of teaching your children that they're a member of a different culture. Practice, "Freedom of speech," just as I do, but try harder to get educated on the real culture of America's First Citizens.
