Got comcast today – Not bad… so far
May 23rd, 2009 by Mr. Blue

The comcast guy came out today to install the triple play promo I signed up for a few weeks ago. So far, so good.

The digital phone service works great, as to be expected… it’s a phone, but does come with some cool features like online voicemail and contact/caller ID management.

Digital Cable is definately worth it, although there’s one problem which hopefully someday the FCC will get their fingers out of industry and allow the cable companies to do what they should be doing in the first place. The problem is that during the day, when viewership is low; some of the networks like to broadcast in 420 resolution which SUCKS when you have a widescreen TV and digital cable. Due to FCC regs, the cable companies aren’t allowed to upconvert to 1080 or even 720 so on some channels we’re stuck with 6″ bars on the right and left of the picture. ARRRRGH!!! Can we please get the government out of our lives! Other than that which will take some getting used to, digital picture is nothing short of awesome and even in 1080i, HDTV is simply amazing!

Internet is definately an improvement. Coming from DSL and being a long-time DSL advocate as DSL speeds are typically more stable than cable speeds since they’re not looped like cable is; I have to say, so far I’m impressed. I get 6mb service and managed to pull almost 9 down and 2 up right off the bat.

Not too bad.

So how ironic is this? I don’t have a real router yet so in the interim I re-purposed my verizon-provided westell router to service my cable connection, yeah baby.
