If you have DSL or an otherwise sometimes-changing IP address on the public interface of your IPtables-based router, this may be of use to you.

In a nutshell, it’ll monitor your public IP and reload the IPtables if something changes.

No, it’s not a daemon, no it doesn’t update the kernel table like it should, and yes, it has to be called from cron.

Tonight, I get a knock on the door at 9:30pm. Trust me, people KNOW NOT to knock on the door or come by after 9. The house is dark, I’m in the back corner doing my computer geeky things and someone just won’t stop knocking; this seriously goes on for 3-4 minutes! Standard procedure kicks in for late night, persistent, unwanted visitors: stuff the P32 in the back pocket, go to the door and crack it open to see who it is…

It’s Ms. Faye; the sweet old lady two units down. We mow her lawn in the summer. She’s holding cookies.

Damn, I feel dumb.

Every summer since we moved to our townhome, the neighbor to the right of me and the two neighbors to the left of me have been pretty good friends with one another. Normally we think nothing of it to mow each other’s lawns since we all live on postage stamp sized yards anyway.

We hook her up every year, this year it was mostly me. Karma rocks!
